Barratt Redrow puts nature, people and wellbeing at the heart of their developments. Enhancing nature is essential to the design of Barratt Redrow developments and makes them more attractive communities in which to live.
The site is currently formed of two field parcels which have previously been in intensively farmed arable use and are therefore of relatively low ecological value. There are however higher value habitats on the field boundaries comprising hedgerows and mature trees and these would be retained as much as possible and enhanced with significant additional planting.
A Preliminary Ecological Appraisal was undertaken in March 2026 to assess baseline conditions with further survey work recommended to inform the site design and any mitigation requirements. Further survey work is currently being undertaken for the following protected species; great crested newt, reptiles, birds, bats, badger and water vole.
Alongside the retention and protection of the vast majority of existing trees and hedgerows, the proposals will be enhanced with high-quality landscaping and tree planting, increasing tree cover across the site. In addition, with appropriate planting sustainable drainage features such as a proposed drainage basin will provide new wetland habitat. A Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment will be completed to demonstrate the development’s ability to achieve a biodiversity net gain.
Existing high value habitats on the site will be retained and protected from development, alongside extensive new landscape planting to achieve net gains in biodiversity.
Homes for Nature
Barratt Redrow is proud to be a member of the Homes for Nature Programme. This includes a commitment to see a bird-nesting brick or box installed for every new home built, as well as hedgehog highways as standard on every new development.
