Active travel

The site benefits from being a sustainable location, with good access to local services by active modes.

Pedestrian facilities can be accessed adjacent to the site, including along Goose Lane and through the existing residential development to the north – providing connections to the centre of the village.

In terms of cycle facilities, National Cycle Network Route 5 passes through Lower Quinton along Main Road where it is an on-road facility. Approximately 3.3km to the north-west of the site it becomes a Greenway accessed off Station Road which continues as a traffic-free route into Stratford-upon-Avon to the north.

Measures to connect to and, where appropriate, enhance off-site facilities will be identified as part of the application in consultation with the local highway authority and secured through planning.

The site is sustainably located a short walk from local services such as the primary school, church, and convenience store, with the medical centre immediately adjacent.

Site access

Vehicular access to the site will be taken from a new priority T-junction off Goose Lane and will be designed in accordance with highway standards. It is currently envisaged that this would replace the existing access to Meon Medical Centre, with access to the Medical Centre being taken through the new junction. The existing access would remain in place until the replacement is ready to use, ensuring no interruption to Medical Centre access.

The development itself will be arranged around an accessible internal road and active travel network.

Whilst the application is in outline, the internal site layout would be designed in accordance with the Manual for Streets and will include the provision of a good level of street and path lighting, warning signs prior to junctions, tactile and coloured surfacing, safety kerbing, reduced junction mouth widths to promote slower vehicle speeds.

Public transport

Bus stops can be accessed within easy walking distance of the site, less than 300m from the centre of the proposed development on Goose Lane. Additional bus services can be accessed off Main Road in the centre of Lower Quinton and are located approximately 750m walking distance from the centre of the site (around 8 minutes by foot).

It is proposed that a financial contribution towards the improvement of bus stop infrastructure would be secured as part of any planning permission.

The site is well served by nearby bus stops and the development will make contributions to improving bus stop infrastructure.

Transport Assessment and Travel Plan

Barratt Redrow have commissioned a thorough appraisal of the existing conditions of the local transport network, and an assessment of the highways impact associated with the development proposals.

The planning application will be supported by a Transport Assessment which will, amongst other things, consider the impacts of the proposals on the operational of the safety and capacity of the local highway network.

In the event that significant impacts are identified, mitigation measures will be proposed in consultation with the local highway authority, and these would be secured through planning and funded by the developer.

The application will also be supported by a Travel Plan which will include a package of sustainable transport measures and options for reducing car dependency.
